Weband the Scottish Patient Safety Programme have made Medicine Sick Day Rules cards available nationally. These cards advise patients to stop taking specific medicines on days when they are unwell with vomiting or diarrhoea or fevers, sweats and shaking. NHS Grampian is now rolling these out for use locally. Webterm ‘Sick Day Rules’ may be unhelpful since it suggests a dogmatic approach to management instead of providing individualised advice. We suggest that ‘Sick Day Guidance’ may be a more helpful term. In addition, there remains the need to characterise Sick Day Guidance, defining the target audience and how it is operationalised.
