If you want to use the schaller screw, you will have to shorten it and then taper the new end to a point. IMHO, you should NOT use the stock screws with the locking buttons.

The lock is a safeguard. Other models (Dunlop, etc.) rely on the lock to remain secured, in order to hold the guitar. There is no secondary backup.
